Improving the health status of Koinadugu District through equitable water, sanitation and hygiene service delivery: The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the achievement of MDGs 4 and 7, improving health in Sierra Leone. The main problem is to be addressed by this action is the poor health status of the citizens and the link between improved health and increased access to WASH services. The causes of under 5 mortality are related to malnutrition and lack of access to adequate primary health care and infrastructure such as water and sanitation. Small sale delivery of water sanitation infrastructure and hygiene promotion services in order to identify cost-effective approaches and increase access to improved water and sanitation facilities, as well as key hygiene behaviors are among the main approaches. Also the importance of increasing the voice and influence of the communities, but in particular women, in the development planning process for WASH services.
